Claim No: G 568-12
Claimant: Lindsey Hartman
Date of Loss : February 18th, 2011
Dear Mr. McCormick,

On February 18, 2011, at 2:45 I was severely injured in a car accident with your insurer Brian Carter. I had the green light and as I proceeded to turn left onto Main Street I was struck by Brian Carter in a black escalade. The police report said that Brian was very intoxicated. The escalade smashed into my green cavalier directly from the rear at approximately 65 mph. On impact my car flipped several times in which I had no control of safety since I was violently pinballed inside the car. My car then landed in a ditch where I was thrown from my vehicle. My injuries were sever, as I suffered a broken neck, 3 broken ribs and a broken leg. Brian Carter is at fault here for he was very intoxicated, failed to stop on red, and slammed into my rear. I was rushed straight to the hospital in an ambulance where they took several x-rays and found my injuries. The total cost due to injury is:

Emergency Room $200
Ambulance
X-Rays $100
$110
Neck Brace $50
Prescription Medicine $90
Physical Therapy $400
Crutches $25
Total $975

My injuries made me miss a straight month of work. Because of your insurers negligence to follow the traffic safety laws, I have been in extreme pain and suffering for the last 2 months. My neck and leg are still not fully healed from the crash. The injuries have disrupted my lifestyle and have affected my productivity at work. As a result of these injuries and my continuing pain and suffering, I demand compensation in the amount of $5,000.

I hope to hear from you soon,

Sincerely, Lindsey Hartman

Devastating Car Accident Shakes Campus

By Katherine Martz

Campus shook early Friday morning when a driver under the influence seriously injured Lindsey Hartman, the driver of a green Chevrolet Cavalier. The accident happened on the corner of Main St. and College Ave. Police received the 911 call at 2:45 A.M.

The assaulting vehicle, a black Cadillac Escalade, hit Ms. Hartman's Cavalier as she proceeded left onto Main St. from College Ave., via the green light. Mr. Brian Carter, the driver of the Escalade and with a BAC of .23 which is close to three times more the legal limit in Illinois, rear ended the Cavalier at an estimated 65 miles per hour. The Chevrolet rolled multiple times, ending in a ditch. Ms. Hartman was not wearing her seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. She endured a broken neck, three broken ribs and a broken leg. The chief of police, Mr. Conway, stated, "Had Ms. Hartman been wearing her seatbelt, her injuries may have been less severe."

Mr. Carter suffered a broken arm and a concussion from the collision. Ambulances rush them both to St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington to treat their injuries. Mr. Carter was released to the Bloomington-Normal Police Department's custody, while Ms. Hartman is still being treated in intensive care.

Drunk driving advertisement - It shows that it shouldn't be done and that it puts your life and others lives in danger.

Seat belt ad - It is a law that seat belts are to be worn at all times. Other than that, it is important with safety while driving.

Car insurance ad - Car insurance is important to have at the time of an accident. It covers alot of the cost in repair and they will help you with the situation.

Driving school ad - After a car accident, driving school may be required by the insurance company so they do not drop you from their insurance.

Describe in depth what you remember before, during, or after the incident: I saw the smaller car had its turn single on, and I she was taking a left onto main street. I am positive she has the green light I was walking toward the back of her car, then out of no where a big SUV speed past me and slammed into the smaller car as it had slowed down to make the turn. The SUV hit the small car so hard that the smaller car rolled until it stopped in the ditch. It all happened so fast that I didn’t know where anyone was and if they were ok. I immediately called 911 and then went to go see if the were okay. There was a lady that was ejected from her vehicle I think it was the smaller car. Then soon the police arrived.
